Chisinau, 06 July /MOLDPRES/ – The agreement between the Government of Moldova and the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of international road transport will be published 07 July in the Official Journal.
The agreement establishes that bilateral and transit road transport will be carried out only on the basis of authorizations issued by the contracting parties and aims at expanding the market for domestic carriers. According to the signatories, the document does not harm the rights and obligations of the contracting parties resulting from other international treaties.
Earlier bilateral and transit road transport between Moldova and Russia was carried out under a liberalized regime established in 1993. But in 2016 the Russian Federation denounced the liberalized regime and proposed to sign a new agreement. The argument is that the Russian law provides for the obligation to sign a Type Agreement with all EU Member States, as well as those that have concluded an Association Agreement with the European Union.
The agreement was signed in Leipzig, Germany, on 31 May 2017.
