Problem of domestic waste management in Chisinau solved with involvement of Moldovan government

Chisinau, 06 July /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a press conference together with Mayor Tintareni, Ina Pascan, and Deputy Mayor of Chisinau, Nistor Grozavu, today, on the management of household waste in Chisinau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The Prime Minister announced that the parties reached a compromise and the municipal waste disposal polygon in Tintareni village would be reopened and the Government would monitor the way the Chisinau City Hall complies with the obligations assumed to Tintareni mayor’s office.

The Head of the Executive stated that the Government's role was to help the City Hall to identify a solution, recalling the crisis created in the city a month before. "Things have been complicated for two reasons: the way in which the transport of waste to Bubuieci was managed and two – several irresponsible politicians were very interested in these weeks to instigate and provoke a huge waste crisis in Chisinau," said Pavel Filip. Also, the Premier said that the lawfulness of all the waste management actions so far had to be investigated by the law enforcement bodies.

In order to ensure the functioning of the municipal polygon in Tintareni, the Chisinau City Hall will carry out several actions, which will benefit the commune inhabitants. Among the most important measures are:

- the annual transfer of the amount of 6 million lei for the settlement of problems of local interest to the Tintareni mayor’s office;

- consolidation and maintenance of the dam;

- purchase, installation and assurance of the operation of the waste filtration and purification station;

- organizing the disposal of unauthorized landfills and free disposal of domestic waste from the locality;

- rehabilitation and commissioning of the drinking water treatment plant;

- installation of street lighting;

- ensuring the repair of the paved streets in the locality;

- planting the forest strip on the perimeter of the polygon and installing a protective fence around the polygon to exclude environmental pollution;

- rehabilitation of the local health centre;

- the installation of children's pavilions in the kindergarten, the paving of the kindergarten territory and the installation of the fence.

In the context, Tintareni Mayor Ina Paşcan mentioned that the reopening of the garbage lot was a very complicated decision for the locality because of the distrust of the commune inhabitants towards the municipal authorities, and the compromise was found due to the Government's involvement.

At his part, the Deputy Mayor of Chisinau, Nistor Grozavu, assured that all the obligations that the Chisinau City Hall assumed towards the inhabitants of Tintareni village would be fulfilled, and the locality would have only to gain.
