Chisinau, 06 July /MOLDPRES/ – The National Council for Curriculum within the Ministry of Education approved, for the first time in Moldova, the Romanian language curriculum for children from Diaspora (A1 and A2 levels) today.

This teaching and learning program of the Romanian language is addressed to children between 07 and 12 years of age, from Diaspora mixed or reintegrated families, with a minimum/different level of knowledge, who want to acquire the Romanian language through culture and civilization, in a non-formal education.

The curriculum can be used by Diaspora trainers for educational teaching and learning activities in Romanian. "Children in Diaspora who will listen to this course will develop their reading, reading skills in Romanian but mostly in Romanian, which will allow them to maintain their cultural identity with their parents, grandparents and their homeland", states a Council communiqué.

The approval of the curriculum was anticipated by a workshop organized in Chisinau on 21-25 June, by the Diaspora Relations Office (BRD) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to Moldova. The meeting was attended by teachers from the Diaspora Educational Centres in seven countries, working with the support of the two structures. At the workshop, teachers examined the didactic aspects of the curriculum and how to implement it. Another seminar on the same theme is to be organized in August 2017, when the Diaspora Days will be marked in Moldova.

The elaboration of the Romanian language curriculum for children from Diaspora, as well as the activity of the Diaspora Educational Centres are part of the DIASPORA ENGAGEMENT HUB program implemented by BRD in partnership with IOM Moldova. The financial support is provided by the project "Strengthening the development capacities of Moldova through the creation of partnerships between Diaspora and the country of origin", financed by the International Development Fund of the International Organization for Migration. Diaspora educational centres were already established in Kazakhstan, Canada, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Belgium and France.
