Moldovan national army commander participates in UN conference of heads of defence

Chisinau, 08 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General, Igor Cutie, participated yesterday at the Conference of the Chiefs of Defence, held at the UN headquarters in New York, USA.
The sources of the Defence Ministry have reported for the agency that the meeting, which brought together military leaders from over a hundred countries, had as its main objective the streamlining of UN peacekeeping missions, focusing on fast deployment, troop training and increasing number of women troops participating in such missions.
The Heads of Defence exchanged views and military analysis on the challenges of the current UN peacekeeping operations and their evolution.
UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, expressed a gratitude to men and women in peacekeeping missions through a video message addressed to participants, apprehending the courage of the UN "blue helmets" that put themselves at risk, so that others can enjoy safety.
Antonio Guterres also welcomed the focus of the forum on gender equality, noting that there has been a need to increase the number of women in operations. Thus, the official urged all countries providing troops to deploy more women to UN peacekeeping missions.
The UN Conference in the format of the Heads of Defence was at its second issue.
