Gagauzia’s integration into Moldovan framework for regional development supported by European Union

Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Government approved at today's meeting the draft Government decision on initiation of negotiations and approval of  Amendment signing, concluded by an exchange of letters, to the Financing Agreement between the Moldova Government and the European Union on the "Trust Building Measures Programme", signed on 26 March 2014.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the Agreement derives from the Moldova – EU Joint Action Program for 2013 and it is an international treaty and the amendment will be concluded between the Government of Moldova and the European Commission by way of exchange of letters.

The proposed amendment will change the implementation deadline for Part IV of the Agreement "Integration of ATU Gagauzia into the National Framework for Regional Development" by 24 months.

The expanding of the term is necessary in order to capitalize all money means and implement successfully the actions proposed under the Agreement.

Component IV, worth €5 million, is detailed as follows:

Integration of ATU Gagauzia into the national framework for regional development (service contracts) – €1 million;

ATU Gagauzia Civil Society Support (grant contracts) – €1 million;

Support of local public authorities in Gagauzia (direct grant) – €3 million.
