Wife maintained by insured husband to benefit from maternity allowance in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - The wife maintained by the insured husband will benefit from maternity allowance, if on the date of getting the maternity leave, she is not employed and has no insured income, according to amendments adopted by the parliament in the final reading today.
Under the draft, “the wife maintained by the insured husband will benefit maternity allowance, if on the date of getting the maternity leave she is not employed and has no insured income, which is confirmed by the work record book and by a written declaration on one’s own responsibility that she is not insured against the concerned risk.”
On 9 February 2017, the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional the Article 16, paragraph 5 of the law on allowance for incapacity for work, which envisaged that “the wife is maintained by the insured husband if, during two months in a row, before the providing of the maternity leave, she was not employed or had no income equivalent to four monthly salaries or if she lost the status of insured person.”
According to the information unveiled by the National Social Insurances House, the spending needed to implement this draft law is estimated at 182 million lei in 2017, over 200 million lei in 2018 and about 218 million lei in 2019.
