New programme for backing agriculture worth about 24 million dollars to be implemented in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today adopted a draft law on the ratification of an agreement on financing with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for carrying out the Rural Resilience Programme  - IFAD VII. The project’s budget is 23.7 million dollars, of which 5.5 million dollars are in grant.

The project is aimed at providing long-term accessible financing sources to strengthen the resilience to climate changes in agriculture.   

Thus, project provides for the construction of 24 water supply networks for irrigation for 75 agricultural producers, restoration of 12 road segments to facilitate farmers’ access to production zones, from which 50 enterprises and more than 1,200 families of 12 villages will benefit. About 420 farmers will get grants to carry out measures to improve the resilience to climate changes and over 450 micro-entrepreneurs, 150 young entrepreneurs and at least 20 small- and medium-sized enterprises will benefit from preferential loans.  

Also, to diminish the effect of soil’s erosion and reduce the impact produced by climate changes, within the project, the construction and rehabilitation of reservoirs with water from precipitations with an area of over 30 hectares will be financed; 200 ha of forest belts and 200 ha of grassed land plots will be planted/restored.    

The period of implementation of the agreement is of six years, and is to be completed in 2022. The agreement’s management will be provided by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation of IFAD Programmes in Moldova.
