Number of Moldovan small, medium-sized enterprises increased by one thousand units in 2016

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ – The number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increased by one thousand units in 2016 and constituted 51 thousand 600 firms.
The Economy Ministry’s communication and public relations department has reported that SMEs constitute 98 per cent of the total number of enterprises functioning in Moldova.
The SMEs earned revenues of MDL 125 million in 2016, up to 4.5 per cent more compared to 2015.
Most of the small and medium-sized enterprises (40 per cent) are engaged in business activities, followed by those in manufacturing industry with a share of 8.5 per cent and companies within professional, scientific and technical activities.
Regarding location, SMEs were placed mainly in Chisinau – 65 per cent, followed by those in the regions: Centre – 15 per cent, North – 12 per cent and South – 5 per cent in 2016. The SMEs in Chisinau generated income from sales of MDL 81 mln. (65 per cent of total), followed by those ones in the Centre about MDL 18 mln., North – MDL 16 mln. and South – MDL 7 mln.
