United States-Moldova bilateral relations given new impetus

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The bilateral relations between the United States and Moldova have been given a new impetus. The friendship group for Moldova was re-launched in the American Congress, after Republican Pete Olson and Democrat David Price had asked to authorize the group in the U.S. legislative body, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

The work of the caucus will help strengthen the strategic dialogue between the two countries, including in consolidating the inter-parliament dialogue, with Caucus serving as a platform for the promotion of Moldova’s priority interests on the bilateral agenda with the USA.   

The two members of the United States’ Congress assumed the role of co-heads of the Group.

According to Republican congressman Pete Olson, “the relations between the USA and Moldova are extremely important, especially when it comes to the energy security in the Eastern Europe. I am looking forward to become a co-head of this Group and to further improve the relations between the USA and Moldova.”     

“Since the declaration of its independence, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Moldova has been working for a stable and democratic future. The outstanding progress made by the country is a testament of the tenacity and spirit of the Moldovan people and Moldova’s potential as a strong and independent nation. Also, the latter took a wider and more comprehensive commitment with Europe and the United States, including with my origin state North Carolina. I am looking forward to the re-establishment of the Caucus for Moldova in the Congress, in order to contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two countries,” congressman David Price said.   

The caucus for Moldova was registered for the first time in March 2012 and was inaugurated three months later. According to procedures, for the creation and registration of the caucus to be officially authorized, the request on authorization is should necessarily be submitted by two co-heads, representatives of both political parties from the United States.    

The diplomatic ties between Moldova and the United States of America were established in February 1992. In the 25 years of cooperation, the USA provided Moldova with financial assistance worth about 1.4 billion dollars.
