Moldovan judges extend warrant of home arrest for ex-MP by 30 days

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - Magistrates of the Buiucani district court of Chisinau today extended by another 30 days the warrant of home arrest for a former MP, Chiril Lucinschi. At the same time, the file in which Lucinschi is accused was completed with a new count – false testimony.
The former MP was not present at the today’s court session. Lawyer Corina Stratan said that Chiril Lucinschi had been hospitalized.
As for the prolongation of the warrant of home arrest, the lawyer said that “the court decision is groundless, so that the judges’ ruling will be appealed at the Court of Appeal.”
The case prosecutor, Eugen Rurac, said that “the pleading on the extension of the arrest was reasoned by new evidence and that the consideration of the cause is at the final stage, so that the file is to be soon sent to court.”
Also, the prosecutor specified that the file in which Chiril Lucinschi is accused was completed with a new count – false testimony, showed though the non-inclusion in his testimony on wealth and personal interests of the capacity of financial beneficiary of the incomes got from two companies, which are contained in the money laundering scheme. “It is about two episodes: five million lei and 440,000 US dollars. Nevertheless, the former MP does not want to make statements on the charge brought,” Rurac said.
Chiril Lucinschi was detained by officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) on 25 May 2017 and, along with three representatives of an economic agent, they are suspected of money laundering.
According to CNA, the former lawmaker, being the real manager and beneficiary of the companies Toast Delux SRL (Ltd) and IPA International Project Agency, along with interposed persons, would have committed money laundering in more episodes. If found guilty, the former MP and his three accomplices run the risk of being sentenced to up to ten years of imprisonment. The former lawmaker continues to plead non-guilty.
