Measures to back Moldovan residents of Romany ethnic group discussed at government

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The situation of Romanies from Moldova and opportunities to back them were the main subjects tackled at a today’s meeting of representatives of the State Chancellery, Interethnical Relations Bureau and Coalition Voice of Romanies, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
At the meeting, Government’s Secretary General Lilia Palii stressed the role of maintaining an active dialogue and the need to consolidate actions to settle the social problems faced by the citizens belonging to the Romany ethnic minority.
The sides discussed challenges faced by the community of Romanies and the range of multidimensional measures due to be undertaken in the fields of social protection, labour force employment, repatriation, ceasing the immigration, as well as schooling from the viewpoint of social inclusion of Romany children. At the same time, the participants in the meeting emphasized the importance to strengthen the service of community mediator, which will monitor the way the rights of the ethnic minority are observed and will contribute to the social inclusion and improvement of the quality of life of the Romanies in community.
Also, the participants in the dialogue pointed out priorities dealing with the carrying out of an action plan on the support of the residents belonging to the Romany ethnic group for 2016-2020 (PASPER) and proposed including the updating of the plan, in order to adapt it to the real needs.
To identify instruments of applying and monitoring the PASPER actions, as well as to optimize the mechanism of inter-sectoral cooperation on pressing problems, the participants in the meeting analyzed possibility to strengthen the platform of dialogue with the participation of representatives of the Romanies’ community.
The participants in the event also discussed subjects on encouraging the development of business in the communities of Romanies, fighting discrimination of Romany women and covering the situation of Romanies in Moldova’s mass media.
