UN, World Bank's recommendations to serve as support for nationalizing Sustainable Development Goals

Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - Representatives of the State Chancellery, central public authorities and joint UN – World Bank delegation today held a working meeting to analyze the results of a mission on assessing the progress and constraints in the process of adaptation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the national context, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
At the discussions, the government’s deputy secretary general, Roman Cazan, referred to the importance of the findings and recommendations of the delegation members. He specified that they would help the public authorities in adjusting the national agenda of policies to SDGs and elaboration of a new framework of strategic planning Moldova 2030.
For his part, the deputy resident representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova, Stefan Liller, said that, during the mission, a string of meetings with partners of the government, academic environment, civil society, private sector and development partners had been organized. Information on the way global challenges from different sectors can influence Moldova’s long-term development was collected following these meetings.
Among recommendations filed by the delegation members, there is the pressing ahead with reforms underway to strengthen the potential of public administration authorities on the sustainable development segment. At the same time, the delegation members stressed the importance to provide quality services locally, undertake measures needed to cease migration, as well as to promote financial transparency.
Also, the mission members set forth the priority sectors for speeding up in the process of SDGs’ integration nationally and work out the National Development Strategy 2030. According to the results of the mission, the authorities’ efforts are to be focused on the following fields: economy – to create new jobs; regional development and social sector – on the segments of education, health and environment. All recommendations of the UN – World Bank joint delegation, on a 17-21 July visit to Moldova, will be presented to the Moldovan authorities in a final report.
