Bonfire breaks out at Chisinau republican stadium on 24 July

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ – A strong fire broke out on 24 July morning at the Republican Stadium in Chisinau, where were stored stranded branches after strong snow in April 2017.

The press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service, Diana Tutu, informed the agency that Service 901 was alerted at 04.30. "There were directed sixteen intervention vehicles with a staff of over 80 people on site. The bonfire was located around 07:00 a.m. Fortunately, there are no victims. At present, there is no risk of spreading, but the firefighters intervene for the complete fire liquidation. According to the data, there burned about 40 per cent of the branches and an area of ​​6,000 m2. The specialists are going to determine the cause of the bonfire," said Diana Tutu.

During the weekly meeting of the Chisinau city hall, Deputy Mayor, Nistor Grozavu, mentioned that there were two reasons for the bonfire outbreak. "One reason would be accidental arson by throwing a cigar in the area, and another reason would be intentional arson," said Grozavu.

At his part, the head of the Green Spaces Association, Eliferii Haruta, specified that the flames affected the chopper that was on the stadium. "The cutter was damaged because the furnace was in the immediate facility vicinity and burned some of its pieces. We will establish with the owner how we can help to repair it," said Haruta.

Also, Deputy Head of Botanica sector, Oleg Ratoi, warned that the sector areas where branches were deposited, there are near residential homes and school institutions, which poses major risks. "We need financial support to urge grinding of these branches and avoid producing a similar bonfire," said Oleg Ratoi.

This is the third fire produced at the locations where the branches were stored after bad weather in April 2017. The affected wood masses were stored in seven locations in Chisinau.
