Moldovan government approves national blood transfusion, self-insurance program for blood products

Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Executive approved the National Transfusional Security and Self-Guarantee Program of Moldova with blood products for 2017-2021, at its today meeting, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The purpose of the Program is to ensure the safety and biosecurity requirements of blood products and hemotransfusion assistance.

The document includes the objectives, action directions for achieving the goals and expected results, stages and deadlines for implementation, the general cost estimation, progress indicators, monitoring and evaluation.

The specific objectives of the Program include: maintaining the quality management system in hemotransfusion assistance; supplying Moldova with blood and blood products; continued development of voluntary blood donation/blood components and increase in yearly number of systematic volunteer donors.

The estimated Program cost is MDL 562,433 million. At present, there are over 79 thousand donors in Moldova, out of which 80 per cent are volunteer donors.
