Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Institute for Democracy from Moldova today informed about the implementation of a string of projects on enhancing measures to strengthen the trust between the two banks of Dniester.

According to a press release by the aforementioned institute, the European Union in 2009 worked out a programme on support for financing joint projects on both banks of Dniester, which are aimed at edifying peaceful relations, preventing and settling conflicts.

The programme provides for the getting close of Chisinau and Tiraspol by enhancing the confidence and backing joint initiatives, which involve the interested sides from both banks of Dniester.

In December 2016, within a programme financed by the European Union, the Institute for Democracy, in partnership with the Bulgarian cultural society Rodoliubeț from the Transnistrian region and the centre for promotion and protection of young women’s rights, initiated the implementation of a project titled, Strengthening mutual trust between teachers from the two banks of Dniester: formation of  regional capacities for the continuous development of teachers’ qualifications in the field of pro-active modern methods of education in the human rights sector. The Institute for Democracy – a public organization registered at the Moldovan Justice Ministry in January 2007 - was nominated as project manager.

The Institute for Democracy is co-founder of the magazines Perspective Europene (European Prospects), Dreptul Nostru (Our Right) and Dreptul.UA (Law.UA) (Ukraine). In 2016, the institute was awarded the prize of the Regional Western Associations of UNESCO Clubs (Ukraine), - a distinction awarded on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day. Also, the organization’s achievements were appreciated by the international magazine, Supremația Dreptului (Supremacy of Law) for the results achieved in the human rights promotion during 2016.

The project’s goal is to enhance the level of confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol, as well as to develop the civic activism among young people in their capacity of active citizens, as well as to familiarize them with the principles of the democracy. In this respect, more teachers were trained in the human rights sector, who are to contribute to optimizing the democratic education among young people. Thus, following the trainings held, teachers will teach basic elements of the democracy to children.

The trainings carried out confirm the importance of the project, aimed at implementing modern methods of pro-active education, especially as the joint initiation of teachers from the two banks of Dniester will help create permanent relations and enhance the confidence between the two banks.
