National Bank of Moldova fines former managers of Unibank with half million lei

Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - The executive committee of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), at a meeting on 5 July 2017, ruled to apply sanctions of fine worth 165,364 lei, which accounts for ten average salaries on financial activities, against former managers of Unibank. The overall sum of fines amounts to 496,092 lei.
According to a press release by BNM, the sanctioning was imposed for the violation, on the period of exercising the position of manager, the provisions of the law on financial institutions and of normative acts of the National Bank. The infringements refer, basically, to the bank’s involvement in risks of excessive concentration of its assets.
The applying by BNM of sanctions does not exclude also other punishments, under the law, including criminal ones, if deeds representing offences are found out.
Unibank is one of the three embezzled banks, which is presently under liquidation and is object of more investigations.
