Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip attended the inauguration ceremony of the Rescuers and Firefighters’ Unit in Cimislia city, on 28 July. Within the headquarters built with the support of the U.S. Government, 20 firefighters and rescuers will be provided to help 38 localities in case of exceptional situations, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the US Government and the American people for financing construction of the unit, but also for that constant support given to Moldova in implementing the reforms and the European integration of Moldova. "Those plenty of projects jointly conducted with the US and the EU show us that the course chosen by our country is a fair one. I am sure that when we realize all the reforms and we have the necessary financial capacity, we will be able to help those who need it," said the Prime Minister.

Similarly, the PM thanked the local public administration in Cimislia for its involvement in the project, emphasizing the importance of promoting the safety of the population and improving the rescuers and firefighters’ working conditions in Moldova. "We can not stop natural disasters or other risk situations, but it is our responsibility to be well prepared to it," said Pavel Filip.

Attending the event, US Ambassador to Chisinau, James Pettit, noted that the assistance provided would increase crisis response capabilities and reiterated his country's readiness for further strengthening the Moldovan-American partnership. "This project, amounting $530,000, is an investment in the security and welfare of the Moldovan people and a symbol of close ties between our states," said James Pettit.

Following the cooperation agreement between the Governments of the USA and the Republic of Moldova, firefighters from Soroca, Basarabeasca, Causeni, Balti, Comrat and Edinet cities benefited from similar projects commencing 2003.
