Moldovan former deputy minister of economy’s legal file sent to court

Chisinau, 02 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office announced today the completion of the criminal prosecution and the prosecution of the criminal case of the former Deputy Minister of Economy, in which the prosecutors detained the abuses of power and the prejudicing of the state budget in very large proportions.
According to the indictment, in 2014 – 2016, the accused, abusing the position he held through third parties, would have bought from S.A. Moldtelecom, founder of which is the Ministry of Economy, a building worth almost one million lei, and subsequently offered the building to company Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord (Northern Power Supply Enterprise) for ten years.
Further on, through abuse of power, the defendant would have indicated to the decision-makers of the company to repair the rental property, on its behalf, for the repair of the building being allocated MDL 4 million.
Also, for the nominated building, the Electric Power Supply company, which repaired the building from its own money, was to pay less than MDL 50,000 a year.
In the criminal case, the anticorruption prosecutors ordered the prosecution of persons under the subordinate or deputy subordinate who executed his requests, unaware of the illegality of the indications, made in order to achieve a personal material interest.
Currently, the former Deputy Minister is under home arrest. "If his guilt is demonstrated, he risks being punished by a fine or imprisonment of up to six years, in both cases depriving of the right to occupy certain positions or to exercise a certain activity for a period of 5 – 10 years," says a statement of the General Prosecutor's Office.
Also, the anticorruption prosecutors filed a civil action in the criminal trial for the recovery of the damage caused by a crime amounting to over MDL 2,5 million, to be collected from the defendant, if found guilty.
