Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/ - The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) has informed that 33 persons participated in public consultations on the concept of design of coins with nominal value of 1 leu and 2 lei, who presented 80 concepts for both coins.
“From the very beginning, I want to highlight the participation in these consultations of citizens, and especially those from Edinet, Drochia and other districts, as well as from the Chisinau city. Six winners have been selected, three for each coin. They will be awarded by one silver commemorative coin worth up to 625 lei, depending of the place held,” the BNM deputy governor, Ion Sturzu, told a today’s news conference.
The names of the winners will be known, after the central bank’s decision on bringing into force the coins is published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
“The proposals received are original, on different topics, such as personalities, historical moments, popular traditions, flora and fauna of Moldova, as well as culture and art. The winners were selected by a commission made up of experts from BNM and foreign experts, specialists in the field,” Sturzu said.
The concepts presented by the winners in the contest will be taken into consideration in working out the design of the coins of 1 leu and 2 lei. The deputy governor also said that, after the consultations had ended, BNM started the procedure of approval of the technical parameters of the new coins and, at the same time, the preparation of the string of documents for holding the tender to identify the designer. Subsequently, decision-makers will switch to the stage of selecting the coin’s producer.
