Chisinau mayor to stay 30 days more under house arrest

Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca temporarily suspended from office will stay 30 days more under house arrest. The decision was taken today by the magistrates of the Buiucani court.

He was present at the hearing and described the extension of arrest as “illegal”. “Defense arguments have been avoided. The Prosecutor’s Office has no evidence, so it tries to delay the file”, he said.

Case Prosecutor Dumitru Robu said he gave conclusive evidence that would prove the risk of interference in influencing witnesses.

Chirtoaca was arrested in late May by anti-corruption prosecutors and officers, suspected of influence peddling in paid parking case. Recently, he was suspended from office until a final sentence was issued.
