Moldovan government approves national program for social inclusion of persons with disabilities for 2017-2022

Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers approved in its today meeting the National Program for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities for 2017-2022 and the Action Plan on its implementation, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The document aims to develop accessible and inclusive services that meet the real needs of people with different types of disability.

To this end, the authorities propose improving access to social protection measures for people with special needs, facilitating the accessibility of infrastructure, transport, information and communication for people with special needs. Some other objectives set out in the Program are: to increase access of people with disabilities to health services, promote inclusive child education and increase the employment rate of people with special needs.

The actions to be taken include: ensuring disabled persons, including children, wheelchairs and other technical assistance, including in the case of home medical care, syringes, stomas and other materials necessary for the sick, expanding the list of compensated medicines for the diseases leading to disability, equipping educational institutions with the necessary equipment for facilitating the educational process, as well as for each public institution to assess the accessibility of the infrastructure.

The estimated cost of implementing the Program for the six-year period is about MDL 9 million. According to statistical data, about 181 thousand people with disabilities are registered in Moldova, including 12 thousand children.
