Moldovan deputy premier meets with Russian ambassador to Moldova

Chisinau, 11 August /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan met with Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farit Muhametshin on 10 August, where the officials discussed some of the current issues on the agenda of the Transnistrian settlement process, in particular on the evolution of the situation in the Security Zone (ZS), the activity of the Unified Control Commission (CUC), the promotion of the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the prospects for a new meeting in format 5+2, the office for reintegration policy’s information and media communication service has reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan stressed the importance of maintaining a calm and stable climate in the ZS and avoiding all sorts of challenges, dedicating a special role for the CUC. In this context, he reiterated the willingness of the Moldovan authorities to contribute to the identification of the appropriate solutions within the existing negotiating mechanisms for the problems faced by the population on both banks of the Dniester, especially, regarding the restoration of the telephone connection, free movement of persons and means of transport, opening of bridge Gura Bicului-Bicioc, normal functioning of the Latin ABC-based teaching schools, apostille of the Transnistrian diplomas and free access of the farmers in the Dubasari district to their agricultural lands. Gheorghe Balan said that the possible solutions to those problems could be approved at the following meeting in format 5+2.
At his part, Farit Muhametshin confirmed the Russian Federation's interest in consolidating peace and stability in the ZS, invoking the willingness to include the Russian delegation in the CUC, as soon as possible and to contribute to the efficiency of its work. He advocated constructive and pragmatic approaches in the negotiating mechanisms that could contribute effectively to resolving the existing problems and conducting a new meeting in negotiation format 5+2.
The two interlocutors confirmed the common interest in maintaining a positive dynamics in the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in order to contribute to the consolidation of peace and security in the region.
