Turkey interested in expanding of trade-economic relations with Moldova

Chisinau, 15 August /MOLDPRES/ – Turkey is interested in expanding trade and economic relations with Moldova, said the Turkish Ambassador to Chisinau, Hulusi Kiliç, at the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Octavian Calmic, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, today. The officials discussed the dynamism of the trade-economic relations between Moldova and Turkey, as well as the possibilities for their intensification, including through the implementation of new bilateral projects in different fields.

The economy and infrastructure ministry’s communications and public relations department has stated that the interlocutors agreed to speed up the dialogue to open the economic representation embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Turkey, residing in Istanbul. It was also agreed to create a joint working group that would elaborate a feasibility study to determine the possibilities of expanding the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement and on services between Moldova and Turkey.

The results of that study are expected to be presented in December 2017 at the meeting of the Moldovan-Turkish intergovernmental economic cooperation committee, which will meet in Chisinau. A Forum of Businessmen from both countries will be organized in the capital of the Republic of Moldova.

According to statistical data, the volume of foreign trade of the Republic of Moldova with the Republic of Turkey in the period of January-June 2017 registered $195,870 million, 16.51 per cent more than in the same period of 2016. In the first semester of 2017, exports of Moldovan goods to Turkey, compared to the first half of 2016, increased by 48.45 per cent and imports reduced by more than 8 per cent.

According to the data submitted by the State Registration Chamber, 1251 enterprises with Turkish capital are active in Moldova, with investments in social capital amounting to MDL 384 million. Turkey ranks the 3rd among the number of businesses in Moldova.
