Moldovan president sets up civil society council

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- The presidential decree on creation of the civil society council will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 18 August.
Under the decree, the council will be set up under the president as consultative body, which will ensure the interaction between the head of state and civil society. The new structure will have the following responsibilities: will present the president recommendations from civil society on legislative initiatives in the social sector and will propose solutions to the problems faced by society. Also, the members of the council will organize public debates on laws and public policies.
The council will include 15 relevant committees. Thus, each draft law coming to promulgation in the presidency will be sent for expertise to committee members on each separate field. Each committee will have about 10 members, total number of which currently is 166 people.
The commissions will have the following heads:
Commission on integrity and legal expertise – Pavel Midrigan
Commission for constitutionality and human rights - Dumitru Pulbere
Committee on media and communication - Elena Pahomova
Committee for Diaspora - Cătălina Grîu-Bora
Health Commission - Eva Gudumac
Youth Committee - Dumitru Roibu
Sport and Tourism Committee - Tudor Casapu
Committee on Culture, Education and Science - Valentin Beniuc
Commission for Social Protection, Family and Child Protection - Leonid Manea
Commission for strengthening statehood and reintegration of country - Victor Stepaniuc
Commission for Interethnic Relations - Elena Beleacova
Committee on Cults and Cultural Heritage - Victor Borşevici
Commission for armed forces veterans, law enforcement officers and participants in military conflicts - Victor Gaiciuc
Committee on Population, Demography and Migration - Valeriu Sainsus
Committee for Public Control - Fiodor Ghelici.
The first civil society council meeting will take place in September 2017.
