Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/ – The most migrants are able to work and do not see themselves returning to Moldova for various reasons, including corruption and economic instability. The data are presented in a survey of the Diaspora carried out by the experts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the mission in Moldova.
According to the study, over 70 per cent of the Moldovan migrants are young people aged up to 40 with studies, but they mostly engage in unskilled labour. Most women work in the field of domestic services, child and sick care and hotel services, and men work in construction and transport. The absolute majority of the Moldovans are well integrated into the destination countries and do not see themselves willing to return to Moldova. The arguments for this decision are such as: mistrust in the political and socio-economic system, political instability, theft of the billion, negative experiences in opening up business, the perception of a safe future for children abroad.
The research reveals that most often the economic factors influence the departure of Moldovans abroad. So, the largest Moldovan communities are in Russia, Italy and Israel.
The analysis shows that in the past years the main objective of our countrymen in the process of integration into a foreign country was legalization, more and more people wish to recognize the diplomas obtained in Moldova in recent years.
The mapping study of the Diaspora was carried out in February 2016 – February 2017 in seven countries of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) experts mission to Moldova under the project entitled: Supporting the Implementation of the Migration and Development Component of the EU-Moldova Mobility Partnership and capitalizing on its benefits for the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, funded by the EU in partnership with the Moldovan Government.
