Moldova to get 20 million dollars for modernisation of government services

Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/- World Bank Board of Directors approved on 22 August 20 million dollars funding for the government services modernization project. As a result of its implementation, Moldovan citizens will access more efficient government administrative services, according to a press release by the World Bank.

“The project will improve the quality and access to public services,” WB Director for Moldova Anna Akhalkatsi said. She added that “this project will also settle governance problems and will help increase the level of trust of the people in public institutions”.

The government agencies and relevant ministries will also benefit from the technical assistance for service digitization and institutional capacity compliance. Citizens and local businesses will get direct benefits, devoting less time, effort and resources to access essential government services.

The project is in line with the priorities of poverty reduction and promotion of shared prosperity in Moldova identified in the World Bank’s Country Specific Systemic Diagnosis of 2016 and the goals of the Public Administration Reform Strategy in Moldova for 2016-2020.

Since Moldova joined the WB in 1992, over 1 billion dollars have been earmarked for nearly 60 operations in the country. Currently, the WB portfolio includes nine active projects, the total amount of commitments amounting to 358.5 million dollars. Areas of support include regulatory reform and business development, tax administration, education, roads, healthcare, agriculture, adapting to climate change and others.
