Regulation on national commission’s activity of permanent uninominal constituencies establishment approved

Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Regulation on the activity of the National Commission for the establishment of permanent uninominal constituencies today, which will constitute the normative basis for the activity of the Commission and ensure an efficient and transparent mechanism for the setting of constituencies, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The draft provides for the Commission’s creation and organization, the members’ rights and obligations, the President and its Secretary’s duties. At the same time, it is determined how meetings are to be held and decisions made.
Also, the criteria for setting up 51 permanent uninominal constituencies for the purpose of organizing the parliamentary elections are outlined, including the rules for the formation of the constituencies outside of the Republic of Moldova and in the localities of the Transnistrian region.
According to the draft, the lists of uninominal constituencies, indicating the numbers and boundaries, approved by the Government, will be published in the Official Journal, in order to ensure the principle of transparency.
The regulation was drafted following the amendments to the Electoral Code and to the Law on the statute of the deputy in Parliament, which came into force in July 2017.
