Winners of National Prize 2017 announced

Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers approved today the list of prize winners contest of issue 2017, based upon the Commission's decision for the National Prize award, from 22 August, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Thus, four prizes were awarded in the field of science. PhD in philology, professor, Dragos Vicol, won the National Prize for Cultural Phenomenology Research. Gheorghe Baciu, PhD in medical sciences, university professor, was awarded for his personal contribution to the development of the National Legal Medicine Service and journalistic activity with historical-medical activity. Dmitrii Parmacli, PhD in economics, university professor and Alexandru Stratan, PhD in economics, university professor, were awarded the National Prize for the research cycle in the field of development of the potential and increasing the economic efficiency of agriculture. The fourth winner is Gheorghe Postica, Ph.D., professor in history, for the realization of fundamental scientific researches on medieval civilization, the elaboration of the theoretical and applied studies for safeguarding and capitalizing on the national cultural heritage.

As in other editions, most of the awards in 2017 were awarded to personalities in the field of culture and arts. Thus, Teodor Chiriac, writer, translator, was appreciated for the literary work and the promotion of the national patrimony written abroad. Opera "Omnia" brought him the title of Laureate of the National Award to composer Leon Stirbu. Similarly, Iurie Sadovnic, an interpreter and author, won the Omnia Opera Award. Another winner in the field of culture and arts is Alexandru Cozub, actor and theatre director, for the originality of the guided performances, promotion of national theatrical art abroad and innovative theatrical management. Film director, screenwriter and publisher Igor Cobileanschi is the Prize laureate of 2017, for a substantial contribution to increasing the quality and visibility of the local cinema product.

In the field of sports, the National Prize was awarded to Larisa Popova, the Olympic champion, for the whole sports activity and the promotion of the Olympic movement.

The National Prize Winners' Gala 2017 issue will be held on 26 August 2017. The National Award is given yearly by the Government as a sign of gratitude for the results obtained in various areas of activity, such as science, technology, culture, arts and sports.
