Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/- Employees of the Interior Ministry (MAI) today marked the 26th anniversary of independence of Moldova. Attending the event were heads of MAI subdivisions, war veterans and members of Guard of Honor of MAI.
Several veterans were decorated at the event and placed flowers at the Eternity memorial complex.
Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan noted that Independence Day is democracy and freedom. “It has already become a tradition that on the eve of the event we come and offer distinctions to those who have made many sacrifices for our country. 26 years ago we chose independence. The beginning was not easy, and today we realize that without the courage of those who fought we should not have known what freedom means. What veterans have done for us can be rewarded only by peace and recognition of immortal values”, Jizdan said.
For his part, war veteran Vasile Iacubov said that 27 August is more than a feast. “This date reminds us of regaining of sovereignty, being a celebration that strengthens national freedom and identity, values gained through struggle and devotion by soldiers who have placed the country’s independence above their own life”, Iacubov said.
On 27 August, Moldova marks the 26th anniversary of independence, voted by the parliament in 1991.
