Diaspora’s children become familiar with folk traditions at summer camp DOR in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ – The fifth issue of Programme DOR (Diaspora, Origins, Returns) was launched on 22 August 2017, at Holercani, bringing together hundreds of children from 14 countries aged 12 – 17. For one week, participants in the Program are trained in artistic, sporting, linguistic, cultural and cultural activities in Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
According to the agenda, the Diaspora’s youth participated in the workshop: Tainele costumului popular (The mysteries of folk garment, where, together with ethnographer, Mariana Dobzeu, they discovered the way of making traditional clothes and were convinced of the importance of promoting authentic local creation and preserving ethnic national identity. The extensive programme for children included the robotics workshop, theatrical workshop, painting circle and folk dance lessons. The creative activities aimed at strengthening the emotional ties with Moldova and raising the awareness of the summer camp guests about the need to know their origins.
The children also made a trip to the cultural-natural complex Orheiul Vechi (The Old Orhei), during which they visited the cave monastery, museums on the territory of the complex and escalated the reservation cliffs.
The DOR camp’s participants will learn more about wood carving, coin mugging and glass ornamentation over the upcoming days.
There were registered 197 children at the fifth issue of DOR Programme, with 100 participants selected, out of which 80 children from the Diaspora and 20 from Moldova. The participants in DOR 2017 arrived from Canada, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Greece, Romania, Spain and Moldova.
