Moldovan guestarbeiters send home $105 million in July 2017

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ – Money transfers from abroad through licensed banks in favour of individuals registered an increase of 8.4 per cent in July compared to the same period of 2016. The persons received funds worth $105.3 million, 9.7 million more than in 2016, with reference to today data of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
In July, most money through the banking system came to Moldova from the Russian Federation ($37.18 million), Israel ($15.98 million), Italy ($13.0 million), USA ($8.33 million), United Kingdom ($4.9 million), Germany ($4.7 million). According to the NBM data, the foreign currency transfers changed in favour of individuals, remittances in US dollars had the main weight of 49.7 per cent, down by 1.1 percentage points compared to June 2016, followed by transfers in euros – 39.3 per cent (up 3.3 percentage points) and those in Russian rubles – 11.0 per cent (decreasing by 2.2 percentage points).
In seven months money transfers in favor of individuals amounted to $656 million.
The transfers of money from abroad to individuals (resident and non-resident) represent the amounts of money transferred to Moldova through the national banking system, including through international money transfer systems. The amounts are recalculated from the original currency of the transfer in USD to the official exchange rate of the BNM at the time of the transfer. The data do not include bank settlements on the left bank of the Dniester river.
