Chisinau, 29 August /MOLDPRES/- The leadership of the parliament and members of the government will not participate in a meeting of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), convened by President Igor Dodon. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made the statement after the meeting of the standing bureau of the Democratic Party.

According to Candu, the decision was taken after several issues not related to Moldova’s security were included on the agenda of CSS, among which the government’s decision to declare Russian Deputy Premier Dmitry Rogozin persona non-grata.

“It is a matter that falls within the competence of the government and not of the Moldovan President or CSS. Discussions on this issue are a challenge and we do not want the CSS to become an instrument of geopolitical confrontation. There are many issues that can be on the agenda of the council”, he said.

Candu noted that members of the parliament and government do not intend to boycott the CSS activity, and will not attend sessions as long as the agenda does not include issues on country’s security.

In early August, Rogozin was declared persona non grata in Moldova. The decision was approved by the government following a proposal by the Foreign and European Integration Ministry. The government has forbidden Rogozin access to Moldova and transit through the territory for defamatory and false statements to Moldovan citizens.
