Value of blood donor food basket to be doubled in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ – The blood donor food price will be doubled. A decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers today, in order to give the possibility of providing blood donors with healthy products containing the required amount of protein, carbohydrates, lipids and dietary fiber, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The increasing and maintaining the number of unpaid volunteer donors, including their inclusion in the systematic ones, correlates with the state's concern for their health. Thus, doubling the cost of the pack will provide the opportunity to buy products that provide gain of calorie loss, establish healthy donor status and blood components, and improve the quality of the blood or blood components donated.

The new food package, identified in a working group, will include one litre of juice without added sugar, canned meat and fish. The donors will also receive about 100 gr. of chocolate, 400 gr. of halva or 250 gr. of dried fruit. The new set will include a can of vegetables.

It is worth mentioning that 80,000 blood donations are needed to ensure the necessary volume of blood products, yearly.
