New EU ambassador to Moldova gets info on aspects of Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue

Chisinau, 22 September /MOLDPRES/ – The developments in the Transnistrian case and perspectives of the Transnistrian settlement process were the subjects of talks held by Deputy Prime Minister, Gheorghe Balan, with Chief of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Peter Michalko, at their first official meeting today, the office for reintegration policy’s information and media communication service has reported.
Gheorghe Balan wished the Ambassador success in his mandate exercise, ensuring that the authorities have been open to an efficient and sustainable dialogue with the European Union.
Deputy Prime Minister informed the European diplomat about the current situation in negotiation process, more aspects of the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue and options for solving the existing problems, including the access of farmers to the agricultural lands, ensuring the adequate conditions for the Moldovan schools with Latin script teaching, barriers imposed by Tiraspol representatives on free movement and so on.
Peter Michalko reiterated his EU support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and encouraged the Moldovan authorities to insist in finding a viable solution to the Transnistrian issue.
At the end of the meeting, the officials expressed their readiness for a frank and open dialogue for mutually beneficial cooperation.
