Moldovan prime minister meets UN secretary general

Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister of Moldova, Pavel Filip, had a meeting with UN Secretary General, António Guterres, on 22 September, in the margins of the 72nd session of UN General Assembly in New York. The two officials had an exchange of views on topical issues on the international agenda and referred to the UN importance in the global security architecture, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the UN to Moldova and assured António Guterres of Moldova's support for promotion of peace, security and sustainable development for the benefit of the whole world, during the talks.

In the same range of ideas, the Prime Minister requested on behalf of Moldovan government of the UN support for the efforts made to withdraw foreign troops from the territory of Moldova. The Head of the Executive said that request was an extremely necessary application of preventive diplomacy in a region where the maintenance of regional peace and security has been threatened. "The withdrawal of foreign troops from the territory of Moldova will contribute to ensuring a better atmosphere for solving the Transnistrian conflict", said Pavel Filip.

Also, the Premier spoke about the extensive reform process launched by the Moldovan authorities and noted that consistent efforts have been made to improve national legislation and regulations in more domains, based on good international practice. Related to it, Pavel Filip noted that the achievement of sustainable development objectives was an integral part of those reforms.
