Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/ – Hundreds of volunteers, supported by central and local authorities, are participating at the World Cleanup Day today, held in Moldova in 2017 with slogan: Together we will be able to make the country cleaner.
The sanitation actions in Moldova were coordinated by movement Hai, Moldova! in partnership with the Ministry of agriculture, regional development and environment together with Association for waste recovery.
The Global Cleanup Action started in Estonia in 2008, when 50,000 people came out and in five hours gathered up to ten thousand tons of garbage, managing to clean up the entire country. Moldova joined the movement in 2011, gathering more than one hundred thousand volunteers in campaign Hai, Moldova! The Cleanup Day is organised in 116 states today.
Hai, Moldova! held a summer school to create an active youth network in all regions of Moldova, in summer 2017, so as to cover the largest area of Moldova. They were given the title of ambassadors of cleanliness, with the mission of identifying areas where illegal garbage (park, lake, river edge, nearby plains, forests, etc.) were found in localities and organised on 23 September sanitation campaigns and fitting.
According to the organisers, Hai, Moldova! is one of the biggest social involvement movements in Moldova that brought together over two hundred thousand volunteers from about 800 localities in 20 districts. It is expected the participation of about one hundred thousand volunteers on the Cleanup Day in 2017.
