The SHS’s meteorologists has reported that, as a rule, the first soil frosts are noticed on average in Moldova in the first half of October, and in the air - in the second half of October too. But in some years, the soil frosts were recorded even in the first decade of September.

In the air, the earliest frosts were recorded on 17 September 1952 (Briceni, Balti, Tiraspol, Leova), with the intensity up to minus 2.5ºC.

Interviewed by the agency more farmers said that the announced frosts were a more unpleasant surprise for vegetable growers. "In particular, producers of tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and cocoons must be mobilized, these vegetables being the most susceptible to the first brute. While fruits and grapes are more resistant, due to a higher sugar concentration," state the farmers.

Also, the specialists claim that if it is impossible to gather all the crops in an urgent mode, a solution might serve the placing of polyethylene coverings over the plantations. It is a tried and tested experience that has allowed saving tomato crops more times.
