Moldovan cabinet sets stricter requirements for enhancing residents' food security

Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - The government, at a today’s meeting, approved a draft law on the general requirements for hygiene of food products. The document transposes the European norms in this sector and is aimed at making food sector operators more responsible to achieve a higher level of protection of the human life and health, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The draft law establishes the general requirements of food products’ hygiene, at the stages of production, processing, preservation, transportation and sale, as well as of their export. Thus, entrepreneurs will use drinking or clean water in the process of producing food, will choose rooms, so as not to cause products’ contamination and the staff employed will have to meet the specific medical requirements. Also, primary producers are to ensure the cleanliness of animals due to be slaughtered, preserve the information on products used for the feeding and taking care of animals, as well as on the diseases and biologic agents appeared.      

At the same time, the draft promoted by the government sets the requirements for the conditions of preservation, stocking and sale of food products. They should be preserved in clean rooms, connected to the sewerage system, drinking water and which have means of ventilation and illumination.   

To provide support to entrepreneurs, the National Agency for Food Safety, along with business associations and specialized institutions, will work out and periodically update the guide of good practices. The latter will have a consultative character and will contain pieces of advice on the norms of hygiene and control, dangers which may emerge and control measures due to be undertaken.
