Parliament speaker says Moldova determined to ensure indestructible elergy connection with EU

Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - “The connection to the European energy market is of crucial importance for us and we are determined to create a real alternative for Moldova,” Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said at the Aspen Energy Summit, held in Ploiesti, Romania, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
In the context, the speaker emphasized the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau and the inter-connection of the electro-energy system of Moldova to the one of Romania, - a project in the phase of feasibility study. According to Candu, the energy security has precedence against the economic parameters expected.
The representatives of the Romanian governance, attending the event, expressed willingness for Romania to become a supplier of energy security in the region and for the Moldovan-Romanian relations to advance in the energy sector as well.
Attending the event were Vice-President of the European Commission, in charge of Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič, officials from the region, experts, investors in the energy field.
On the sidelines of the summit, the parliament speaker had a meeting with Georgian Energy Minister Ilia Eloshvili. Andrian Candu highlighted the adoption by the Moldovan parliament of the Third Energy Package, unveiling willingness to share Moldova’s experience in this respect. The officials reaffirmed the bilateral support for the European integration of the countries and the need to strengthen the cooperation on the segment of the Eastern Partnership.
The Summit Aspen Energy is annually organized by the Aspen Institute Romania and gives possibility of discussions and taking important decisions for the energy sector from the Black Sea-Caspian Sea region. This year, the forum was organized in Ploiesti, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the foundation of the first modern refinery in the world in this city. Among the topics tacked at the summit, there are the development of a competitive energy market in Romania and interconnection with the regional and European energy market, exploring options of extending the regional and trans-regional infrastructure and of developing the inter-connectivity.
