Moldovan speaker apologizes to Romania for sharp statements of president

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has apologized to Romania for the sharp statements made by President Igor Dodon. The statement was made yesterday after a trilateral meeting of the Speaker, President of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate President, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
“A president who faces the lack of skills compensates with sharp statements. Reforms and European integration remain our priority, and Romania – the number one partner of Moldova and our lawyer in the European integration process”, Candu said.
During the meeting with Nicolae-Liviu Dragnea and Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, Candu stressed the determination of the authorities to further implement the provisions of the Association Agreement and the continuation of the European path by promoting reforms for the benefit of the people.
The Romanian officials announced Romania’s openness to support Moldova in getting closer to European standards, especially, in the social and cultural sectors, energy security, infrastructure and agricultural fields.
The sides reviewed the current situation and decided to boost the parliamentary cooperation, including the announced intention to hold a joint meeting of the two parliaments.
The speaker pays a working visit to Romania, where he attended the Aspen Energy Summit, organized annually by the Aspen Institute of Romania.
