Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/- Road traffic bypass of Ungheni city will be opened on 31 October 2017, and the segments of the route Chisinau-Ungheni, undergoing rehabilitation, will be completed by late first half of 2018. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Octavian Calmic and representatives of the companies involved in the road rehabilitation made a decision to this effect.
Calmic visiting the site on Saturday found that the works on the four segments of the route with an overall length of 91.5 kilometers are carried out with serious deviations from graphs specified in the contracts. The late elaboration of the details of execution of the works by the entrepreneurs, changes in the technical projects due to their poor quality performance, non-payment by entrepreneurs of the contracted materials in time led to compromise contract.
Another problem, according to the deputy premier, which stops the implementation of road rehabilitation contracts, is the lack of national companies capable of providing quality services, in line with the European standards, and main entrepreneurs. The reserved attitude of European donors towards Moldova delays the implementation of contracts in the road.
“For now, we have managed to restore relations with development partners, but we need time, as to prove we can work on modern principles using transparent work processes”, Calmic said.
The first test is opening on 31 October 2017 of the traffic on the ring road of Ungheni, project funded by the European Commission grant worth over 11 million euros. This project will shorten by about 20 kilometers way to the customs Sculeni and new bridge over the Prut, a project planned to be carried out in collaboration with Romania in the area of Zagarancea village.
Calmic also said that over the past 30 days progress has been made in the works by Azerbaijani companies Evrascon (two road segments with a total distance of about 40 km) and OHL ZS from the Czech Republic (two road segments of about 50 km) on the Chisinau-Ungheni route.
In the first decade of October, in Chisinau consultations will be held between MEI leadership and the two companies to discuss all the existing problems, find solutions to overcome them and set exact terms of putting into operation each road segment, undergoing rehabilitation.
