Moldovan PM, World Bank country director discuss aspects of cabinet-WB partnership

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - Aspects for the government-World Bank (WB) partnership and prospects for a further good cooperation between the two structures were discussed at a today’s meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and WB Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Satu Kähkönen.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, in the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip thanked the World Bank for efforts undertaken in the last years to implement the cabinet’s reforms agenda. Filip noted that WB, along with the International Monetary Fund, represented the main pillars in the implementation of Moldova’s European agenda.
“Our government’s action programme is based on the Moldova – European Union Association Agreement. In this respect, your expertise is essential in its fulfillment. At the same time, the present partnership between Moldova and the World Bank will allow us adapting the economic programme, so that we have economic growth and ensure the residents’ well-being,” Pavel Filip said.
In the context, the prime minister said that he was confident in the successful carrying out of the present cooperation programme with the World Bank, stressing the importance of the next country strategy for 2018-2021. This strategic document is based on three priorities:
• Economic governance – strengthening the supremacy of law and making economic institutions more responsible, consolidating the managements of assets in the public sector and enhancing the stability of the financial sector;
• Governance of services – improvement of public services by enhancing their efficiency and quality;
• Development of competences – enhancing the relevance and quality of the primary and general secondary education, in order to allow residents get and improve the professional skills.
The prime minister specified that the three pillars of the strategy very well correlated with the government’s visions and priority reforms. At the same time, the PM stressed the need to as efficiently as possible use the public money and the foreign financial assistance. “By the carrying out of the government’s reform, we are set to strengthen the state’s institutions, which is to remove the inefficient use of public money,” Pavel Filip said.
For his part, World Bank Country Director Satu Kähkönen expressed willingness of the institution she represents to back the government’s efforts in implementing the agenda of reforms aimed at ensuring the economic growth and improving the residents’ living standards.
