Moldovan PM says government open for change, cooperation, growth

Chisinau, 3 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in the opening of the Moldova Business Week 2017. The event brought together over 1,000 business people from about 20 countries, authorities, development partners, experts in the field, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

In his greeting message conveyed to the participants in the meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip encouraged business people to analyze Moldova’s potential, highlighting opportunities of extending the business, availability of the labour force, as well as the access to the European markets and the ones of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

“We have industries on the rise, important assets of the state, which are to be turned private within privatization programmes, as well as innovative and complex approach, in which the state creates conditions for the business environment to develop,” Pavel Filip said.  

In the context, the PM reviewed the reforms already promoted by the government and the ones under implementation, the goal of which is the sustainable development of the economy and enhancing the residents’ well-being. Among them, there are: cutting the number of permissive acts, institutional reform of the control bodies and the system of state controls, reform of the labour legislation, simplification of the procedure of presenting salary reports, reform of the financial and banking sector, optimization of the procedure of providing work and stay permits to foreign citizens. Also, entrepreneurs can benefit from important facilities for developing investment projects at free economic zones and in industrial parks.    

“Moldova will not stop here, we will further carry out the needed reforms, so that the business environment has at its disposal the needed comfort and all instruments in order to develop,” the prime minister stressed. Pavel Filip assured the business environment’s representatives of the continuity of the systemic reforms in terms of reducing bureaucracy and administrative burden for companies: “The government is open for change, cooperation and growth.” At the same time, the prime minister said that the progress made by Moldova in the development of the business environment is recognized by the international community. Thus, Moldova went up by 11 positions in a global competitiveness ranking for 2017-2018 and ranked sixth in the world in terms of the Global Location Trends Report 2017, as for the number of jobs created in 2016 in relation to the number of residents.    

For his part, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko welcomed the government’s progress in implementing the free trade agreement and removing technical obstacles to developing the trade, stressing that EU would further support the authorities’ initiatives to this end. “The European Union will continue backing Moldova in the process of carrying out the reforms, especially through the implementation of the Association Agreement and Free Trade Agreement. The European Union remains a loyal partner of Moldova in the commerce sector, as well as the most important export market,” Peter Michalko said. In the context, the EU official said that Moldova Business Week 2017 was an event which would contribute to a successful development of the business environment and would bring the country benefits through the creation of new jobs.   

Moldova Business Week 2017 is held on 3-6 October and the schedule of events includes 30 business meetings with the participation of 60 speakers, business forums and visits to Moldovan producers.
