Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a decision on starting negotiations on an agreement between the Moldovan government and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on the holding of the World Conference on Wine Tourism.
The third World Conference on Wine Tourism is scheduled for 20-23 September 2018. The document approved contains two chapters on privileges, immunities and facilities, as well as the conditions for organizing the conference.
“This is an important event, which will allow us promoting one of the most important industries,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip said.
Presently, about 20 wineries from Moldova provide tourism services to foreign visitors. The cooperation with the World Tourism Organization, in order to organize the World Conference, will contribute to the promotion of Moldova’s image as world wine tourism destination. Moldova was selected in a competition with South Africa and Spain. The argument which mattered in the end is that Moldova represents a tourism destination which has not been fully discovered as yet, which is to be backed by UNWTO.
Moldova is the first country included in the list at a proposal by Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Taleb Rifai, who emphasized the high level of organization of the meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission.
Moldova organized and hosted the 61st meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for Europe on 5-7 June 2017.
