Moldovan, Bulgarian officials broach bilateral cooperation

Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/- The evolution of the bilateral relations and opportunities to strengthen the partnership relations between Moldova and Bulgaria were the main topics for discussion during a meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Vice-President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials exchanged views on the current issues on the bilateral agenda, opting for extending the cooperation in the areas of common interest. In the context, the premier welcomed the Bulgarian side’s decision to open a Consulate in Taraclia, which will boost bilateral relations.

At the same time, Filip thanked the Bulgarian official for supporting the country in achieving its European path. “We need such friends as Bulgaria in the EU, countries that have already taken the way of European integration and understand very well what is happening to us. We do not need praise, but appreciations”, he said.

The premier noted that Moldova needs support to implement the reform agenda, which will change the citizens’ life and make irreversible the European integration path of the country.

Iliana Iotova said that Bulgaria would remain a loyal supporter of the European aspirations of Moldova, The official appreciates the way in which the problems of national minorities, including ethnic Bulgarians in Moldova, are addressed. “Moldova is a model in terms of respect for human rights”, Iotova said.

At the same time, the Bulgarian official welcomed the creation of the consortium between Taraclia State University and two Bulgarian universities.

In another context, Filip informed Iotova about the latest developments in the Transnistrian issue, calling for the Bulgarian side to support the issue on the withdrawal of foreign military troops from Moldova on the agenda of the current session of the UN General Assembly.
