U.S. business people to be informed on investment opportunities in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with Assistant United States Trade Representative, co-head of the Moldovan-American inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation Daniel Mullaney, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The officials exchanged opinions on the present stage of the cooperation relations between Moldova and the USA in the trade and economic sector and possibilities to extend them. In the context, the sides highlighted the importance of holding, in Chisinau, the third meeting of the Moldovan-American inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation. Pavel Filip and Daniel Mullaney expressed confidence that the discussions and the exchange of ideas at the meeting would contribute substantially to boosting the commercial and investment cooperation between Moldova and the United States.
In this respect, Prime Minister Pavel Filip referred to measures undertaken by the government to improve the business environment, among which: cutting the number of permissive acts; reducing the number of institutions with control duties; tax reform, amendment of the Labour Code, simplifying the salary reporting. According to the PM, all these actions had at their basis the constant dialogue with the business environment on the platform of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, which includes the American Chamber of Commerce as well. “We have a permanent dialogue with the business environment, in order to tackle the present problems and find the best solutions by common consent,” Pavel Filip said.
Also, the prime minister noted that decision-makers are to organize a campaign on informing business people from the USA on Moldova’s investment opportunities. “For us, the trade relation with the USA is a priority; yet, the attraction of American investments into the national economy is more important,” Pavel Filip stressed. In this respect, the PM emphasized the present opportunities in virtual IT Parks from Moldova, where the conditions for work are ones of the most attractive in the region.
At the same time, the prime minister thanked the USA for the constant support provided to Moldova to promote the democratic transformations, in the implementation of reforms and the country’s advancement on the European integration way.
For his part, Assistant United States Trade Representative Daniel Mullaney confirmed interest in the fostering of the commercial and economic ties between Moldova and the USA, stressing the importance of developing an attractive business environment, due to ensure predictability and transparency.
Data by the National Statistics Bureau shows that the foreign trade between Moldova and the United States stood at over 48 million dollars in January-June 2017, by 21 per cent more against the similar period of the last year. Presently, 379 enterprises with U.S. capital work in Moldova.
