Premiers of Moldova, Ukraine sign roadmap for developing cooperation between two countries for 2018

Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Ministers Pavel Filip and Volodymyr Groysman today signed a roadmap for the development of the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation for 2018. The document sets the priority directions and expresses the two states’ firm intention to further cooperate in implementing the Association Agreement with the European Union.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, among the priorities provided for in the document, there is the boosting of joint efforts for the inter-connection of the energy systems of Moldova and Ukraine to the European energy system and for ensuring alternative ways of supply with natural gas. Also, the authorities speak out for turning to good account the two states’ transport potential in the European direction, including by the construction of bridges nearby the Soroca and Yampil settlements, re-establishment of the railway segment Basarabeasca-Berezino, as well as for the inclusion of the route Edinet-Vinnytsia in the Trans-European Transport Networks in Europe (TEN-T).       

The roadmap also sees continuation of the joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian international border checkpoints and developing partnership to ensure an integrated management of the frontier, based on European standards, including on the Transnistrian segment.   

Moldova and Ukraine will foster cooperation in the economic sector as well.  In this respect, next year, the sides will establish possibilities of joint development of the process of production and subsequent export of goods to the European Union’s market. At the same time, the sides will further ensure an efficient work of the Moldovan-Ukrainian inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation.   

At the same time, the two countries’ governments will ensure the implementation of the provisions of the agreement on cooperation in the field of protection and sustainable development of the Dniester river basin, as well as the completion of the process of talks on the mutual recognition of the rights to ownership, juridical regulation of the conditions of exploitation of the Dniester Hydro-Energy Complex and demarcation of the state border in the zone of the Giurgiulesti settlement, southern Moldova, and the Dnestrian Power Plant.    

The document signed today is a continuation of the roadmap on the development of the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation for 2017, signed by Pavel Filip and Volodymyr Groysman in Kiev in last February. Due to its implementation, the bilateral trade between the two states grew by about 31 per cent.  

Also today, the officials signed bilateral agreements on the readmission of persons who stay illegally, along with a protocol on its implementation, as well as on joint control of persons, transport means and goods at the Moldovan-Ukrainian joint border checkpoints.
