Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/- A moratorium was set on the programme on closing schools from Moldova starting from today, after more mistakes had been discovered in the process of implementation of the reform in education. The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, made statements to this effect at a news briefing today.
According to Plahotniuc, in the wake of the mistakes found out in the reform processes by the former governance, children, teachers and parents are affected. “People complain about the closing of schools in settlements, we have notifications on the matter at the party and I have personally received complaints. Any reform and any optimization must have a human face and should proceed from the needs of the people and the social realities. Otherwise, a lot of failures are possible. After an assessment of the situation, we have to admit that right are people, who warned us and to recognize that the way the reform in education has been carried out in the last years had more erroneous calculations, which led to dramatic consequences for tens of communities. Presently, we ascertain, regretfully, mistakes in the implementation of the programme on reform in education, as too many people were hit by it: many children, their parents and certainly, - a lot of teachers, some of whom remained also without jobs,” Plahotniuc said.
The Democrats’ leader noted that, starting from today, PDM started a process of comprehensive assessment and analysis of the education reform. Plahotniuc said that he had demanded reports from the leadership of the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, as well as from school headmasters. ”We ruled to take the necessary steps to stop, immediately, starting from this moment, any closure of school. And we proposed to exclude the taxes collected from teachers for continuous qualification courses and to reduce the number of reports they have to make. At the same time, we have considered possibility to work out a syllabus more adapted to children’s needs,” Plahotniuc added.
The reform in the education sector was started in 2010. Since then, more schools have been closed in Moldova.
