Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Government approved dismissal of Grigore Varanita, the director of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) today.
The resignation was accepted on the basis of the request made by Grigore Varanita. The Executive's decision comes after Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, highlighted the unsatisfactory quality of mobile and internet services provided by operators in Moldova.
"The agency deputy director’s dissmisal does not alter the situation. Last week, I asked for a report, but I saw only lies there, which is not honour an agency. An inquiry commission was set up on this subject to determine on what were based arguments the officials offered as an answer and those who lied would be held accountable. At the next meeting, I expect an analysis and a response from the investigative commission," said Filip.
At previous Cabinet meeting, the Premier said there was no stable and qualitative mobile internet coverage in Moldova and outlined that both operators who obtained a state licence and ANRCETI’s employees are in charge for deficiencies, having liability to supervise and monitor compliance with the licence conditions.
Similarly, the PM said that there were all necessary tools for improving the quality of mobile telephony services and those in the field are going to step up their efforts and, as a matter of priority, to abandon the favour of some operators. In this respect, Pavel Filip urged the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure to come up with viable solutions for mobile and Internet coverage in Moldova to be in line with obtained licence by the operators and meet the citizens’ expectations who pay for services.
