Moldovan government backs social inclusion of jobless people enjoying social benefits

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - The unemployed people of the families enjoying social benefits, registered at the territorial agency for labour force employment, will carry out activities of community interest, at mayor’s request. In this respect, the cabinet today approved a draft law on the amendment and completion of the law on social benefit. The law will have social and economic impact through the social inclusion of jobless people who enjoy social benefits and, at the same time, will enhance the turning to good account of the human capital.     

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the type of works, calculation of the number of hours, record and control of activities of community interest are to be established by the government. At the same time, the hours of providing activities of community interest will be calculated proportionally to the quantum of social benefit enjoyed by the family, but will not exceed 40 hours per month, with the observance of the normal duration of the working time and of the labour security and health norms.    

Exception will represent the families for which the sum set of the social benefit is up to 30 per cent (288 lei) of the level of the monthly minimally guaranteed income (961 lei) or the jobless persons from the beneficiary families, who face one of the situations which does not allow involvement in activities of community interest.  

Also, the document sets the mayor’s duties in the carrying out of community interest activities, among which: annually compiling an action plan of community interest and keeping record of the people who carry out these activities and the hours made.  

Community interest activities are widely implemented in more states, among which Romania, Lithuania, the USA.
